Doula A Doula is a non-medical support person who works closely with a woman and her partner during the latter stages of pregnancy, during labour and after birth.
My focus is on working towards healthy mothers and babies by developing a relationship based on trust and understanding.
As a mother of four children, and with a background in holistic treatment, my knowledge and experience are geared towards helping woman, especially first time mothers, reduce their anxiety and nervousness before, during and after birth.
Involvement of a doula during pregnancy, labour and in the first few months after birth leads to happier, healthier mothers and babies and minimises the risk of post-natal depression.
I am essentially your assistant during this period – a source of advice, information and support.
The types of things I do include:
Prepare you and your partner for the awesome journey you are about to undertake
Help you prepare and plan for the birth
Support you during labour
I will help you find out all the information you need to make the pregnancy and labour a positive birth experience
When procedures or drugs are being considered I will help you become an active part of the decision-making process by helping you to ask the right questions
Be there for as long as you need me – whether you birth at home or in hospital
I do not replace the role of a midwife but work with midwives to assist the woman and her partner in a supporting and caring way.
The role of doulas in Australia is becoming increasingly accepted as more and more mothers find our services to be an invaluable support to them during their pregnancy and in those first few months of their baby’s lives.
